A road leading to the West Beach car park and the harbour footbridge, Rope Walk takes its name from the rope-making trade that once operated in the harbour area, producing the ropes and cordage needed by the sailing ships that used the port. The street connects the western bank of the river to the beach, passing through an area that retains its maritime character. Rope Walk provides the principal access point for visitors to West Beach and the dune system beyond.
