Running from the town centre towards the harbour and the river, Pier Road connects the commercial area to the regenerated waterfront. The street name recalls the Victorian pier that once stood at the harbour entrance, and the road passes through the transition zone between the shops and the river quarter. Restaurants, takeaways and harbour-related businesses line parts of the street, and the road provides vehicle access to the harbour car parks and the amusement park.
