Post-war holiday boom
1950s
The 1950s brought a surge of visitors to Littlehampton as the English seaside holiday experienced its post-war peak. Families from London and the Home Counties arrived by train and coach for their summer fortnight, filling the boarding houses and the beach. The harbour, the amusement park, the promenade and the traditional seaside entertainments drew crowds throughout the season. The era represented the high point of the traditional English seaside holiday before the rise of foreign package travel.
