Lyminster

Historic village with Saxon church and rural character on Littlehampton's northern edge

Lyminster is a small village on the northern edge of Littlehampton, sitting between the modern town and the Arun valley farmland. The village retains its own identity, with a medieval church, a village green and a quiet, rural character that contrasts with the busier streets of the town. St Mary Magdalene Church in Lyminster dates from the Saxon period and is one of the oldest churches in the area, a historic building that connects the community to its deep past. The village is now largely enveloped by Littlehampton's northward expansion, but the church, the green and the older cottages preserve the sense of a distinct settlement. The Knucker Hole, a natural spring pool near the church, is associated with a local legend of a water dragon and is one of the more unusual attractions in the Littlehampton area.
